Our Story: 30 Years of Faithful Service

We believe transformation happens through relationships—and relationships take time.

For over three decades, Hands of Compassion has served vulnerable children and elderly in India through a simple but powerful approach: go deep, stay long, and do the work.

How We Do It

We’re entirely volunteer-run.

No salaries, no administrative overhead—just people who believe this work matters. Our Indian partners handle daily operations while we visit annually to maintain relationships, provide oversight, and ensure every dollar goes where it should.

Some of our partnerships span decades. We’ve watched children grow up, get married, and start families of their own. We’ve seen the elderly find dignity and community in their final years.

Hands of Compassion

We Are Small

We know our families by name. We understand the local challenges. We’ve earned trust the slow way—by showing up, day after day, year after year.

We offer authentic relationships and faithful presence.

Our Promise

Every gift goes directly to care. Every visit strengthens relationships. Every year, we ask ourselves the same question: “How can we serve better?”

That’s been the Hands of Compassion approach for 30 years. It’s what we’ll keep doing for the next 30.

How We Help

For Children: Breaking the Cycle Through Education

We provide complete care for vulnerable children in family-style homes: housing, food, daily care, and most importantly, education in English-medium schools.

In India, language equals opportunity. Children who learn in English can access better jobs, higher education, and economic mobility that breaks generational poverty.

Each day in our homes begins with prayer, breakfast, and children getting ready for school in their uniforms. Then they head out for a full day of learning, either in Telegu or English.

When they return home late in the day, the house comes alive again. Some sit with tutors to review lessons or get extra help. Others spend time with vocational teachers, learning practical skills.

There’s singing. There’s project work. Some chores teach responsibility. And there’s plenty of time to play.

For the Elderly: Dignity and Community

We provide housing, food, and daily care in safe environments where the elderly can live with dignity, safety, and faith community.

Our elders live in a recently remodeled home with separate sleeping quarters for men and women, and everyone has a comfortable mattress to rest on. There’s a kitchen where they can prepare meals, share food, and enjoy familiar routines. Bathrooms are safe and clean.

Outside, there’s a quiet area perfect for sitting together, sharing stories, or welcoming visitors. And from the rooftop, they look out over the rice paddies.

Why We’re Different

Education-First Approach

We believe education—specifically English-medium education—is the key to breaking generational poverty in India. Everything we do supports this core belief.

We Stay When Others Can’t

In a region where regulations limit many organizations, our small size, long-standing relationships, and flexibility allow us to keep serving consistently.

All Volunteers, Zero Overhead

We’re entirely volunteer-run. No salaries, no administrative layers, no fancy offices. Every dollar you give goes directly to housing, food, education, and care.

30+ Years of Proven Relationships

Our network of Indian and American families spans generations. Some of our partnerships are decades old. We don’t have to figure it out—we just need to sustain what works.

We’re Honest About What We Can’t Do.

We offer direct communication after our annual visits and the promise that your gift goes straight to work. We can’t give you constant updates. We can give you real impact.
